Staff

Tiziana Stella, Ph.D., is currently Executive Director of the Streit Council for a Union of Democracies, Inc. where, since 2004, she has had lead responsibility for all major projects, including overall program and research planning and management, as well as staff management. She is a specialist in transatlantic relations, NATO, European integration, US foreign policy and federalism. Dr. Stella earned her Ph.D. in history from the University of Pavia, Italy. She was a Fulbright Scholar in the US, and a researcher with several Italian and American think tanks and NGOs, including the Fondazione Luigi Einaudi and the Fondazione Firpo. She worked for the Council for a Community of Democracies in preparation of the Warsaw 2000 conference that, under the leadership of Madeleine Albright, established the Community of Democracies. From 2001 to 2004, she directed the Euro-Atlantic Institute for International Integration Studies. She has been a speaker at numerous international conferences on issues related to transatlantic relations, NATO, the EU, and cooperation among the democracies. She has taught at the University of Tubingen, Germany, the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, and the Moscow State University. She has also led seminars for the National Guard Institute of National Defense Studies in Washington, and at the U.S. Foreign Service Institute in Arlington, VA. Dr. Stella is the author of several publications on the history and prospects of transatlantic relations.

Mitch Yoshida joined the Streit Council as a Research Fellow in June 2010.  Previously, he earned an M.A. in International Relations from Yale University, where his studies centered on U.S. national security policy and transatlantic relations. Mitch has worked for the West European Studies and America and the Global Economy programs at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the National Security Studies Program at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School, and the Council of Europe.  His current research interests include the European Union’s Common Security and Defense Policy and the durability of post-war international orders. He holds a B.A. in international relations, economics, and history from Syracuse University.

Jay T. Chittooran joined the Streit Council as a Research Fellow in August 2009. Jay graduated with a Master's degree in International Relations with an emphasis on International Economic Development from Seton Hall University's Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations. He received his Bachelor's degree in International Studies and Political Science from Loyola University Chicago. Jay has worked with several organizations, including the British Embassy, Washington DC, the United Nations Association, and the Center for Terrorism and Intelligence Studies. During his undergraduate years, Jay studied in Rome, Italy, where he learned about NATO Security/Defense policy under the guidance of former Acting Secretary General of NATO, Sergio Balanzino. Jay's research interests include transatlantic markets and multilateral organizations.

Michael Reilly started working with Streit Council in April 2009 as Research and Communications Fellow. He is a student in the Department of Government and Politics at St. John's University pursuing a Master's degree in International Relations. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Political Science and German from Ball State University in his hometown of Muncie, Indiana. During his undergraduate studies he studied abroad in Vienna, Austria and also won a full-scholarship to study at Westfaelische Wilhelms Universitaet in Muenster, Germany. As a graduate student at St. John's Campus in Rome, Italy, he worked as a graduate assistant and was voted MA Student Representative. His academic interests include transatlantic security, American Foreign Policy, and Russian Foreign Policy.

Delgerjargal (Degi) Uvsh started working as a Research Fellow at the Streit Council in September 2009. Degi earned her Master's degree from University of Notre Dame in International Peace Studies in May 2009 and her Bachelor's degree from American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) in Political Science and European Studies in May 2007. Her research interests include political and economic challenges of international cooperation and securitization and democratization theories. She has done extensive research on the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy and UN Peacekeeping budget. Degi has worked as an intern atthe Parliament of Bulgaria and Institute for Democracy in South Africa (IDASA).

Courtney Chiles joined the Streit Council in August 2010 as an Intern.  She is currently working to complete her M.A. in International Affairs with a concentration in International Laws and Organizations at The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs.  Originally from Tallahassee, FL, Courtney received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Florida while also completing a certificate program in International Relations.  As an undergraduate, Courtney had the opportunity to spend a semester studying the European Union in Brussels, Belgium.  Since this experience, the EU has become an area of interest for her.

 

 

Peris Flagg joined the Streit Council in August 2010 as an intern.  He is currently entering his junior year at Howard University as a Political Science major and an Economics minor. Originally from Milwaukee, WI, Peris is taking Chinese language and is interested in the areas of international affairs pertaining to political economic relations.  In the future, Peris hopes to earn a M.A. in International Affairs (hopefully with an emphasis on international economic law and diplomacy).  He has had the opportunity to travel to various parts of China, Greece, Japan, and Argentina.

 

Andrew Jackson Detsch V joined the Streit Council in August 2010 as an intern. He is currently a sophomore at The George Washington University majoring in International Affairs with a concentration in Security Studies. He is primarily interested in International Security and Diplomacy, and hopes to study abroad in Russia next year. Prior to joining the Streit Council, Andrew worked on a host of political campaigns in California and Nevada.

 

Tomi Maxted joined the Streit Council in August 2010 as an intern. He is currently a senior at the Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. He is majoring in International Politics with a focus on foreign policy. He is a dual British and Finnish citizen and has studied abroad in Strasbourg, France.
